    Light Lotion Potion
submitted by HTN President Donna Maria

I first made this recipe for a woman who wanted a lotion with rich ingredients, but did not want a greasy feel on her skin. This potion fit the bill perfectly, delivering nutrient-rich oils in a light base that absorbs quickly and easily into the skin. The rose hydrosol lends a light, gentle rose scent that even the most sensitive nose will likely enjoy.

    Blending Procedure:

    1. Combine the coconut oil, sweet almond oil, shea butter, jojoba oil, emulsifying wax and stearic acid in a large heat proof (I use Pyrex) glass measuring cup with a pour spout. Place the mixture in a hot water bath until the waxes are completely melted. Remove from heat.

    2. In a separate Pyrex cup, combine the hydrosol, aloe vera and glycerin. Place the mixture in a bath for about 10 minutes to warm, then stir until the glycerin dissolves completely. Remove from heat.

    3. Stir the oils/waxes together to make sure they are evenly combined.

    4. In the separate container, stir the water ingredients to make sure they are evenly combined.

    5. Begin stirring the oil/wax mixture with an electric mixer on medium speed and add the water mixture as you stir. You will see the mixture begin to thicken as you blend it. Continue mixing until until Light Lotion Potion is thick and rich. I have found that blending for anything less than 20 minutes does not allow enough time for this lotion to become stable. Mixing for less time than this could resultin separation of the lotion. Pour into clean bottles. I like to use plastic bottles with flip top lids for easy dispensing.

"This is a light lotion for all over body usage. I used distilled water and rose essential oil drops instead of the hydrosol. Wonderful scent."

"Tried this recipe and it is fantastic, replaced almond for macadamia and rose hydrosol for orange, used different essential oils, it turn out just beautiful. I am still trying to calibrate the mixing time, it does look like it wants to separate a bit but doesn't quite get there, I mixed for about 5 minutes with a stick. I will experiment some more with it."

"Lotion is not that light, feels a bit waxy but it is really good for very dry skin. I tends to separate a bit"
